Taichung Customs Facilitates Clearance Process for Cruise Passengers on the PACIFIC VENUS

The cruise ship PACIFIC VENUS, after an interval of two years, paid its second visit to the Port of Taichung on June 6th, 2018. Departing from Osaka, the Pacific Venus this time carried approximately 700 Japanese passengers and stayed in Taichung overnight till June 7th, 2018.

In order to provide better services for cruise passengers, the 18th quay in Taichung Port was recently refurbished and renovated. Besides, the newly built Wind & Rain Shelter Corridor, which connects the 18th quay and Taichung Harbor Passenger Service Center, is now in place to protect passengers from inclement weather. Passengers on the Pacific Venus were the first group to enjoy these facilities.

To facilitate and streamline the customs clearance while securing border security, Taichung Customs deployed X-ray scanner and detector dogs for passenger and baggage inspection. Since the customs clearance is expedited, passengers can spend more time visiting the famous tourist spots, such as Sun-moon Lake…etc.

Since the cruise tourism is growing worldwide, it is expected to boost tourism business in Taiwan. Taiwan Customs is reviewing the clearance procedures to accommodate the cruise tourism thereby enhancing the experience for tourists and the business opportunities for Taiwan.
